Fruit Slicer & Scorer

This project was inspired by my experience working in busy bars and restaurants where fruit wedges for cocktails must be prepared daily. While commercial fruit sectionizers quickly slice citrus into wedges, there is still a time-consuming extra step: scoring each wedge so it can be placed on the rim of a glass. At one of my past jobs, I was responsible for slicing and scoring 80 pounds of limes and 40 pounds of lemons every day which comes out to over 5,000 wedges! The process took hours to complete. There is currently no tool on the market that can score all wedges in a sliced fruit at once. This project aims to fill that gap.

The Problem

Bars and restaurants that serve high volumes of cocktails spend significant time preparing fruit wedges. While commercial sectionizers slice fruit quickly, scoring each wedge by hand is slow and labor-intensive. The lack of a device that can score all wedges in one motion creates inefficiency and higher labor costs for these businesses.

Innovation Claim

This project is innovative because it is the first device to offer a scoring mechanism as an addon to existing fruit sectionizers, enabling all wedges of a sliced citrus fruit to be scored simultaneously in one quick motion.

Progress

I am currently making the final tweaks to what my latest prototype idea of the fruit slicer and scorer. For my minimum viable prototype (MVP), I am 3D printing the components on my Bambu Lab P1S 3D printer. Once I have the prototype assembled, I will conduct user testing to gather feedback and make any necessary adjustments.
